Clay Art Lessons

Clay can be used as a medium where children can learn to express themselves, it can also stir up the kids curiosity. Clay can stimulate the children’s imagination and they can come up with creative ideas to make things out of it. They learn that anything they can imagine can be created and learn innovation through the process. Working with a natural material like clay supports self expression and
for some children it has a calming effect. Playing with clay can be therapeutic for the children as it helps to reduce stress and it can be an emotional outlet for some kids.

1. Improve Attention Span: Since clay is a flexible material, it can motivate the children to work at it for longer periods of time thus increasing their attention span.

Improved Motor Skills : The children will use their shoulders, back and arms when they are working  with clay, this will improve their small and large muscles in these areas.It will also improve the dexterity of the fingers as well as improve their eye-hand coordination when they roll the clay with their fingers, pressing and shaping.The growth of these fine and major motor skills will help them have the dexterity for writing activities in the future.

They explore and evaluate where to put the parts of the clay they have constructed, learn to think “out of the box” and to solve their problems in a creative manner. The kids look at their clay project and will think on how to further improve it.
Children will also learn to describe, analyse, interpret and explore new ideas which will help them  in other areas of their lives. They learn to make choices will have an impact on future decisions  they make in their careers and other personal areas of their lives.

5. Learn discipline and communication : Clay classes are conducted in small groups where the children
learn to share, wait for their turn and to follow the class rules ,thus learning discipline in the process.They also learn to communicate with their friends and teachers when they are creating their projects. The children improve their social skills and this will help them in their future careers as well as other aspects of their lives.
