The advantages of starting singing lessons with children are ear training and also learning vocal techniques early. Students who start at a later age may be tone deaf and may be difficult to train their ears. Kids like to take part in physical activities and some teachers start the lesson with some posture exercises as well as stretches to develop a good posture when singing. In ear training, the children are taught to match a pitch being played on the piano, then to sing in pitches which are higher or lower than that. It must be ensured that the children open their mouths and sing the vowels with the correct shaping of their mouths. The kids are also taught techniques on how to breathe in and out, the main focus is to get good sounds when they breathe out. Scales are gradually taught to them and they learn to read the music notes by initially singing in solfege. Later when the children are able to perform, parents and teachers can motivate them by encouraging them to sing for them.
