For the young guitarists, it would be beneficial to keep the initial lessons simple so that the kids can understand and follow what has been taught. Songs that the kids can recognise and are easy to play will motivate them to master those pieces. Repetition is an important aspect of learning the guitar and the teacher needs to think of creative ways to make them practice. Children may find it tedious if the practice periods are too long, short but frequent periods may have better results from the kids. When the kids are more confident, more challenging pieces can be introduced.
Children should be encouraged to experiment with the tempo and rhythm and to express freely even if they are incorrect at times. The kids’ ability to change chords will initially be slow so the teacher needs to motivate them to improve their chord changing speed. At times the teacher may need to simplify some difficult chords in order for the children to play the song.
