How To Take Care Of Your Piano

  1. Location of the piano : Ensure that the piano has good ventilation on all the sides, leaving about 4 to 6 ins gap from the walls. Do not place the piano near to the door, bathroom, windows or in any areas which often have high humidity as this will affect the piano. It is also advisable not to place the piano in an area where there is direct sunlight . The piano should be placed against an inside wall where the temperature and humidity can be maintained fairly consistently. Always remember to keep the piano heater on all the time.to prevent moisture from accumulating inside the instrument.
  2. Tuning the piano : Regular tuning is very important to maintain the pitch of the piano at a standard of A-440 cycles per second. The piano will sound its’ best if it is maintained properly .A qualified piano technician will take care of the regulation as well as the internal problems of the piano.The technician can also perform any repairs to the piano if it is needed as he has the proper tools and parts which are needed.
  3. Keep the piano clean : The keyboard should be covered when the piano is not in use to prevent dust from settling on it. A piano cover will also prevent dust from accumulating on top of the piano.The keys can be kept clean by occasionally wiping them with a damp piece of cloth and immediately drying them off. Sometimes the piano may benefit from an occasional polishing to enhance  the beauty of the wood. Always wash and dry your hands before you play the piano to minimise stains and stickiness on the piano keys. If anything is wedged between the piano keys, call the piano technician to remove those objects as you may damage the delicate parts if you attempt to do it yourself.
  4. Keep the piano top clear : Do not place any drinks or liquids on the piano or the top of the piano .Any water or liquids which are spilled and leaked into the piano can cause damage which is irreversible .It can be very costly to repair the damages. Should any water or liquid spill into the piano, call the piano technician immediately to look into the problem.  Also do not place heavy objects on top of the piano as this may also cause damage to the piano eg vase , heavy books.
  5. Play the piano regularly : It is advisable to play the piano regularly to maintain it in a good condition. It can also help you to identify any problems in the piano and get it fixed early before it develops into a major problem.
  6. Moving the piano : Always get a professional piano mover to transport your piano for major relocations. This is to prevent injury to the piano, yourself.as well as your property.
